Civil Marriage

In Lebanon, marriage matters generally fall under the jurisdiction of religious courts, and civil marriage cannot be concluded within Lebanon under the current framework. However, civil marriages validly concluded abroad are legally recognized in Lebanon, provided the required conditions are met and the marriage is properly registered through the relevant administrative procedures. This makes civil marriage a common option for many Lebanese—especially expatriates or couples with different religious backgrounds.

At Azzi Law Firm (ALF), we support clients at every stage of a civil marriage file, from initial advice through registration, and representation in the event of a dispute.

Our services include

Registering civil marriages concluded abroad, including preparing the file, gathering and reviewing the required documentation, and completing the necessary procedures with the competent authorities in Lebanon.

Handling legal disputes related to civil marriage and the legal consequences that may arise, including matters connected to marital rights and the relevant legal steps before the appropriate authorities.

Advising individuals planning to conclude a civil marriage abroad, including general guidance on documentation and requirements, and explaining how civil marriage is recognized and registered in Lebanon and the legal effects that follow.
